Report on Green Badge Training Workshops for Unit Leaders of Fazaia Schools/College

Introduction
Special efforts were made by the National Director to introduce the Award Program in educational institutions throughout the country operated by Pakistan Fazaia. For this purpose four Green Badge Training Workshops were organized in Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Being the member of Regional Training Penal (RTP) of International Award Association (IAA) I was assigned the task to voluntarily conduct these training workshops in collaboration with Sindh Zone, NWFP Zone and Punjab Zone.

Objective
These workshops were organized to accomplish the following objectives:

  • To introduce the award program in Fazaia School/College network
  • To provide green badge training to the teachers nominated
  • To update and certify Unit Coordinators managing the award program in their institutions but have not received Green Badge Training
  • To publicize the award program amongst new institutions and community leaders.
Workshop Venues and Schedule
These workshops were held at the following places:

Workshop Training Team
For administration and logistics Mr. Ata-ur-Rehman, National Director, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Pakistan was personally supervising these workshops where as the Zonal Coordinator (NWFP) at Peshawar and Principal PAF College at Rawalpindi played a vital role to make the training a success story.

Brief description of the workshops

Green Badge Training Workshop at Karachi
First Green Badge Training Workshop was held at Karachi on March 3-4, 2006. There were 15 participants from different educational institutions of Pakistan Fazaia, City School Network, Falcon Grammar School and Foundation Public School, Nasira Secondary School, The Oasys School and Technical Training Center for Women of Karachi. A brief introduction was given by every participant. Ms. Sofia supported the two day training workshop.

Day-I was dedicated introduction of the award program, its vision, philosophy, organizational framework, fundamental principles, operational principles, administrative issues and roles and responsibilities of award management & adult volunteers. Second day training sessions were primarily focused on operational methodology award components of community service, skills, physical recreation and expedition.

In the concluding session participants were again briefed about the methodology, registration process, establishment and working of the units in their schools/colleges. Participants were also trained on how to initiate the unit and what are the responsibilities of a unit leader.

During the two training sessions a range of training techniques were used and the participants were involved in interactive discussions, group work and presentations. It will be pertinent to mention that many of the training techniques I learned at Train the Trainer workshop of Asia Pacific Region at Macau were very help full to conduct the training session more effectively.

At the end National Director Mr. Ata-ur-Rehman gave his concluding remarks and the participants were decorated with badges and were awarded with the Green Badge Training Certificate. Two participants gave their remarks about the workshop and the trainer. The training was ended in the afternoon with a vote of thanks.

Green Badge Training Workshop at Peshawar
Second Green Badge Training Workshop was held at Peshawar on March 9-10, 2006. There were 26 participants from different educational institutions of Pakistan Fazaia (NWFP), Frontier Children Academy, Institute of Management Sciences, University of Peshawar, Forward High School, Frontier Model School and Saint Mary’s High School Peshawar. A brief introduction was given by every participant. Mr. Ata-Ullah-Jan Coordinated the two day training workshop.

Day-I was dedicated introduction of the award program, its vision, philosophy, organizational framework, fundamental principles, operational principles, administrative issues and roles and responsibilities of award management & adult volunteers. Second day training sessions were primarily focused on operational methodology award components of community service, skills, physical recreation and expedition.

Before the concluding session review on the methodology, registration process, establishment and working of the units in their schools/colleges. Participants were also trained on how to initiate the unit and what are the responsibilities of a unit leader. Different training techniques were used and the participants were involved in discussions and group work.

Finally certificate distribution ceremony was held Regional director (Higher Education Commission) gave his concluding remarks and the participants were decorated with badges and were awarded with the Green Badge Training Certificate. On this occasion honorable Principal of the Edwards College Peshawar also spoke and appreciated the participants for their commitment the duke of Edinburgh’s Award Pakistan.

Green Badge Training Workshop at Chaklala, Rawalpindi
The third Green Badge Training Workshop was held at Fazaia Complex Auditorium, Rawalpindi on March 17-18, 2006. Twelve participants from different educational institutions of Pakistan Fazaia (NWFP & Punjab) attended the workshop.

The workshop started with the recitation of holy Quran followed by a brief introduction of each participant. Day-I was dedicated introduction of the award program, its vision, philosophy, organizational framework, fundamental principles, operational principles, administrative issues and roles and responsibilities of award management & adult volunteers. Second day training sessions were primarily focused on operational methodology award components of community service, skills, physical recreation and expedition.

At the ending session a comprehensive review on the methodology, registration process, establishment and working of the units in their schools/colleges was made. Participants were also guided on how to initiate the unit and what are the responsibilities of a unit leader. During the training latest training methodologies were introduced to the participants and they were also assigned with group work.

After the completion of workshop certificate distribution ceremony was held that was presided by Principal PAF College. The participants were also asked to give their feedback and reflections. Later the participants were decorated with badges and were awarded with the Green Badge Training Certificates.

Green Badge Training Workshop at Quaid College, Lahore
Fourth and final Green Badge Training Workshop for the teachers of Fazaia educational institutions in which teachers from Quaid College, Sharif Education Complex, Salamat Public School, Talent Hall School and Govt. Degree College for Women also participated. The workshop was held at Quaid College Lahore on March 27-28, 2006 and it was attended by 17 teachers.

The workshop participants were briefed about the concept of youth development through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program. On the first day topics of introduction of the award program, its vision, philosophy, organizational framework, fundamental principles, operational principles, administrative issues and roles and responsibilities of award management & adult volunteers were covered.

Second day training sessions were primarily focused on operational methodology award components of community service, skills, physical recreation and expedition components. At the ending session a comprehensive review on the methodology, registration process, establishment and working of the units in their schools/colleges was made.

Participants were also guided on how to initiate the Award Unit and what are the responsibilities of a Unit Leader. Throughout the workshop latest training methodologies were introduced to the participants and they were also assigned with group work.

After the completion of workshop certificate distribution ceremony was held that was presided by Prof: Emeritus Mr. Muhammad Mujtaba Hussain, Director (Training & Research), Indus Foundation for Human Development-Pakistan. The participants were also asked to give their feedback and reflections. Mr. Mujtaba highlighted the significance of the training in the process of human development. Later the participants were decorated with badges and were awarded with the Green Badge Training Certificates. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks.
